NBC Bank is the oldest bank in Tanzania with over five decades experience. It offers a wide range of corporate, retail, business, and investment banks, property management products and services. The bank started its operations in 1967 when the Tanzanian government announced itself in all financial institutions, including banks.
In 1991 the banking sector was restructured by six years later. In 2000 South African Financial Services Group Absa Limited earned a lot of shares in NBC. The government of Tanzania has maintained 30 percent of the shares and the International monetary fund a member of the World bank, and took 15 percent of the shares in the bank.
